" A monotype is really a painting done by the artist, in my case with lithography inks, onto a printing plate. This painting is then transferred onto 100% rag paper through an etching press. I work on a drawing composition first, then use that composition as a basis for creating a series of works repeating or changing colors and design elements as I go. Some images may be similar to each other, but each is painted on to the plate freeform by my own hand, with ever changing color and technique. There is no edition, therefore each piece is unique". The Figurative pieces are evocative, with several narrative levels to them. The abstract monotypes are rich with colors that are bold, uplifting, moody and alluring. A sophisticated palette and intimate size beckons the viewer to experience the ambient space created by the composition and color. |

"The word that most often comes
to mind when I think of Katharine McGuinness and her work as a visual
artist is confidence. She has confidence in her role as an artist and
confidence in her medium. Her work has the intellectual integrity that
comes from her clarity of purpose. Her prints are beautiful and beautifully
crafted. I would encourage all to visit her studio to see her work in
person." |
